The MicroBit v2 is one of the most used devices when it comes to embedded systems and IoT education. Most of the documentation for it is in Python and is focused upon learning to code. This tutorial will show how the MicroBit v2 can be used to build secure real life applications with professional development software. We will use Tock, an embedded operating system written in Rust which is a fast and secure systems programming language. We will provide the audience a Linux virtual machine with all the necessary SDKs preinstalled and ready to build applications. Throughout the tutorial, we will walk the audience through how to set up a new Tock project, write a small Tock driver in Rust that controls the watering and heat for a greenhouse and a how to build an application that uses the MicroBit's LEDs Matrix and buttons to interact with the greenhouse manager. Following this tutorial, the audience will have a fair understanding on how to design and implement an embedded project using one of the most popular and affordable development boards together with one of the most secure operating systems. The audience, online or at the venue may bring a MicroBit v2 along to follow the tutorial steps live.
