Maintaining a GitHub presence has become integral for Open-Source Program Offices looking to engage with the community and increase visibility of their OSS projects. Many organizations rely on the GitHub platform to effectively participate and drive their open-source strategy. How to get started though? How do we effectively manage the GitHub repositories, user access control, metrics, etc.? What kind of process needs to be put in place at your organization to ensure new projects are reviewed and compliant? Is there any tooling that can help? As part of successfully managing a GitHub organization, we need to define a workflow to ensure the right level of review and license/copyright compliance is in place. Users will need guidance and information on best practices to help them prep their project for open source. We also need some tooling and configuration to help manage and audit all the repos and users that have access. In this presentation, we’ll go over how we set up github.com/QuIC and integrated it into our open-source strategy. We’ll highlight best practices and workflows we adopted, as well as tooling we leveraged along the way.
