Existing frameworks and ecosystems often come with tools, supporting files such as configuration schemas, translations and ui definitions, and various other infrastructure that are often well supported by the usual languages and build systems. However, when building such an application using a language such as Rust, that has its own build system and other design choices and idiosyncrasies, how does one bridge the two worlds? The presentation will be about the gbuild crate written by the presenter, which has the goal of allowing building a full Gnome application without requiring any kind of integration with non-cargo build systems through the use of a Rust feature called build scripts. The basic concepts of how a Rust application is created and built will be quickly recapped, build scripts will be explained, and then the gbuild use case will be explained and demonstrated.
