Google has released over 2,600 open source projects so far. Due to the pandemic, we saw our community suffering. Productivity went down but corporations are planning to increase investment in open source. So we asked ourselves, "What can we do for the open source community?" We learned that virtual events were the most popular channel for them to stay up-to-date on open source projects. So we decided to make one - Google Open Source Live. (https://opensourcelive.withgoogle.com/) GOSL is a monthly live event series, where the open source community can get together and learn from open source experts. Each event includes sessions, live Q&A, and After Party: it’s an opportunity to connect with the speakers and other attendees. When we launched the community hub, we wanted to focus on 3 key values. Real-time, interactive, and accessible. To liven things up and engage the audience, we always have a live MC throughout the entire event. We also have a Live Q&A Forum, so that the audience can ask questions. At the end, there is an After Party with a DJ, live illustrator and quizzes. All the sessions have captioning - we also created guidelines for virtual event accessibility.
