Now, many companies begin to develop applications based on NVDIMM(Non-Volatile DIMM), because it has not only characteristic of memory but also storage. In the three modes that kernel support(sector, fsdax, devdax), fsdax(Filesystem-DAX) is the most expected access method, because applications can read/write data to the NVDIMM area directly with normal filesystem API. So, it is an easy way to develop or port applications to NVDIMM. However, fsdax mode is still “experimental status” in the upstream community due to some difficult issues, e.g. CoW support and page-to-files RMAP. In this session, we are going to talk about the current status of NVDIMM development, and the challenge of solving those issues we are facing.
