With the advancements already made in 5G and the big trend towards Edge Computing, there's an obvious requirement for an open-source, highly scalable and easy to install IoT Platform. Luigi and his colleague Fan set out to design a system that would be easy to understand and implement. They wanted to make use of industry standards using Event-driven Microservice Architecture. They set about doing a POC using Kafka, Couchbase, Kubernetes, with Golang for all back end Microservices and Vuejs front ends for analytics and admin interfaces. With the POC a success, they then moved to see how they could scale to handle 300 million documents per day (about 10K requests per second) using restful API and IoT-based JSON payloads. They share their experience on how they went about doing this, what worked, pitfalls, and eventually, a solution that they feel could be used by the Open Source Community to rapidly deploy and scale IoT applications. In the previous presentation at the World IoT Expo (China), they gave a 15-minute lightning talk. For this presentation, they will go into more details of the design, architecture, and implementation for both the front-end and back-end services.
