With the continued rise of valuable OSS projects, thriving OSS communities, and the global shift towards work from anywhere, more and more promising OSS projects are leading to commercial opportunities. Today’s creators are often tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, and should be asking themselves: “Could this be a company — and if so, how?” In this session the audience will learn how to navigate the shift from an OSS project to a healthy mission aligned company that has strong foundations of inclusivity, diversity, and a deep focus on contribution. We will discuss how to go about building the core foundations below: - Architect a team that looks & behaves like your diverse users - Remain authentic to the mission of your OSS community & users - Cultivate a culture of contribution & empathy Developers and community leaders will come away understanding what it means to lead an organization built off the best parts of an OSS project and how to avoid many of the mistakes made around authenticity and diversity as an OSS project team wrestles with the early stages of startup life. Interactive Q&A will fuel deeper dialogue and shared understanding throughout the program.
